Lawson Arrested For DWI

by Ben Cohen on June 6, 2008

North Carolina point guard Ty Lawson was arrested in Chapel Hill Friday for alcohol consumption, a noise violation and driving with a revoked license. Lawson, 20, was driving and was approached by a police officer, who mandated a sobriety test.

Lawson is one of three Tar Heels that declared for the NBA Draft but still has the option of returning. It will certainly be interesting to see how this plays into Lawson’s decision–especially after last week, when Lawson complained about not getting support from UNC fans, asking ‘Why should I go back?’”

Lawson’s arrest comes 9 days after Duke quarterback Thaddeus Lewis and cornerback Leon Wright, both 20, were cited for underage possession of alcohol on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill. On Wednesday, head coach David Cutcliffe had choice words for Lewis and Wright’s citations:

“It was stupidity,” Cutcliffe told 99.9 The Fan. “They know that’s not going to be accepted. We can move forward without anybody in this program.”
