1-0 Blue Devils Underdogs Against Northwestern

by Ben Cohen on September 3, 2008

At 1-0, David Cutcliffe’s team has a week two claim it has not been able to boast since 2002. But underdogs in a home game—that’s nothing new for the Blue Devils.

Las Vegas linesetters have dubbed Northwestern, also 1-0, relatively heavy favorites over Duke. Most sites feature a line of six or six and a half points, implying the Wildcats are, at least on paper, almost a touchdown better than Duke, a team that beat this week’s opponent in Evanston, Ill., last year. Northwestern enters the game off a 30-10 drubbing of Syracuse, but the Orange is one of the worst teams in Division I, assuming a title that used to belong to Duke.

We at The Chronicle don’t condone gambling (for the record, Duke was a slight favorite over James Madison Saturday). To the gamblers out there: what do you think of the line? And, most importantly, who are you betting?

If you can find 6, lay it.

Question: Who is officiating? I assume the home-and-home agreement calls for a Big Ten crew in this year’s game. If it’s an ACC crew again, Northwestern may as well forfeit.
