There are no real surprises here.
Lee Butler was injured in the Tulane contest, and head coach David Cutcliffe did not expect him to suit up this week. His biggest impact thus far this season, other than his defensive touchdown against Stanford, has come in returning punts. Look for Jamison Crowder to handle the punt return duties in Butler’s absense. The freshman had a long return for a touchdown called back last week, but he has shown off tremendous quickness and elusiveness in his action so far.
The loss of Kenny Anunike for the season is a huge blow to a defensive line that had been clicking early. Anunike had racked up four sacks in his first three games, but now the onus will fall upon the younger defensive linemen, and senior captain Charlie Hatcher, to penetrate the Golden Panthers’ offensive line.
Ross Cockrell’s return will be a welcome sight for the secondary. Cockrell had been the team’s best corner early in the season, and the secondary will need him to shut down Florida International’s spread offense, especially wide receiver T.Y. Hilton.
Will Snyderwine will continue to handle place-kicking and field goal duties and Asack will do kickoffs for the second week in a row.
