Washington, D.C. — The Washington Wizards weren’t playing until Saturday night, and with Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton already suspended by the NBA, there’s a good chance there weren’t any guns at the Verizon Center this weekend. But Saturday afternoon, Georgetown shot the lights out against No. 8 Duke.
In one of the best offensive performances [...]
Georgetown 84, Duke 68, 2:10 left: Probably the most telling stat from this game is the field goal percentage disparity. Georgetown is still shooting over 70 percent from the floor, which is absurd, while Duke is stuck at a dismal 35 percent. Singler just fouled out, and the Hoyas just converted another and-one.
We’re done for [...]

Mike Krzyzewski and John Thompson III both refused to credit the Blue Devils’ 76-67 win to freshman center Greg Monroe’s second-half technical foul. Krzyzewski said that the the foul, Monroe’s fourth, simply “stopped the game for a while” and allowed Duke to “right the ship” after the Hoyas had cut Duke’s lead to four. Thompson [...]
DUKE 74, GEORGETOWN 67 :15.4: That should just about do it. Georgetown did make a three, but Smith had two clutch free throws and the Hoyas could not convert. Duke wins.
DUKE 70, GEORGETOWN 60 2:23 2nd Half: While the Hoyas are staying basket-for-basket with the Blue Devils, that won’t cut it at this point. Georgetown [...]
Former Duke point guard Jay Williams–who, as he points out, has his jersey hanging in Cameron Indoor Stadium’s rafters–was in town today for a promotion at Alltel Wireless in Durham at 5 p.m. and caught up with The Chronicle this morning. Williams is working in the ESPN studio on Tuesdays and Saturdays with Hubert Davis [...]
Georgetown looked better than its ranking indicated Wednesday night.
The No. 13 Hoyas raced out to an 18-point halftime lead and throttled No. 8 Syracuse 88-74 in the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., giving John Thompson III’s team a tailwind of momentum heading into its Saturday game at No. 3 Duke.
In the win, the Hoyas showed [...]
Highly-prized Greg Echenique, a 6-foot-9 center from Danny Hurley’s St. Benedict’s Prep in Newark, N.J., spurned Duke and other traditional powerhouses for in-state Rutgers. He announced his decision to verbally commit to Fred Hill’s program Monday after visiting Rutgers’ campus Thursday. Echenique was in Cameron Indoor Stadium for Duke’s March 8 loss to North Carolina.
