We knew Joe Alleva must have been somewhere in the Greensboro Coliseum Saturday as his LSU Tigers played a team he’s quite familiar with: North Carolina. But until he wrote a letter to The Chronicle, we didn’t put it together that it must have been oddly surreal for him to hear Duke fans cheering for [...]

First Cut: The Curse Of Wally Wade’s Urinal Troughs

by Meredith Shiner on February 18, 2009

OK, so I can’t believe I’m writing this 1) because it’s ridiculous and 2) because it’s further proof that I don’t know everything (or anything, for that matter)—which is something I’m always ashamed to admit. Alleva has been officially replaced by Kevin White, [...]

Director of Athletics Kevin White promoted veteran Senior Associate Director of Athletics Chris Kennedy to deputy athletic director in a statement Tuesday. Kennedy, an English professor and Duke athletic department member since 1977, served as interim athletic director after Joe Alleva left for Louisiana State University and before White was hired from Notre Dame. Kennedy [...]

Former athletic director Joe Alleva spent 32 years at Duke, and 10 as Director of Athletics. He considered himself a Blue Devil man, loyal to Duke. But in just two months in the same job at Louisiana State University, Alleva had some choice words that likely won’t sit well with Duke supporters.
“The passion for LSU [...]

The search for Duke’s next athletic director is “well underway” and the committee plans on making its recommendations to President Richard Brodhead in June, vice-chair Richard Riddell told The Chronicle Thursday.
Riddell, vice president and University secretary, said the committee is moving in a “very expeditious way,” and formed its search criteria early in the process. [...]
