Obama Shows Aide No Love

by Taylor Doherty on October 9, 2009

President Barack Obama said he was “both suprised and deeply humbled” after winning the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. But after blocking personal aide and former Blue Devil Reggie Love, the president was quick to claim bragging rights.

Besides training with the Tar Heels during his campaign, President Barack Obama had another reason to root for North Carolina Monday night: He picked them to win The First Bracket. And when the Tar Heels did make POTUS look like a seer—or someone with about as much common sense as many others—Obama repaid the favor, [...]

It looks like we might finally have closure on the non-story that turned into a story that dominated the volatile news cycle Wednesday and Thursday.

On Thursday, Mike Krzyzewski’s wife, Mickie, felt compelled to defend her husband after a blown-up brouhaha about his comments on President Barack Obama’s bracket, so Mickie sent a text message to [...]

Seth Davis, a Sports Illustrated writer and analyst for CBS Sports, picked Pittsburgh to win the National Championship. But the Duke graduate—and former Chronicle writer—is still impressed with the Blue Devils, and he shared his observations with The Chronicle’s Ben Cohen Wednesday. Here are excerpts from that conversation, with a full Q&A running in The [...]

The President of the United States likes Duke to get to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite 8–but even his allegiance to his body man, Reggie Love, couldn’t convince him that the Blue Devils would advance any farther.
Obama, who isn’t shy about voicing his opinions about sports, released his bracket to ESPN’s Andy Katz Wednesday. Obama picked [...]

Telling The Story: Duke-Maryland

by Ben Cohen on February 26, 2009

Duke-UNC games are special in their own right, but analyzing the media’s coverage of Duke’s games against, say, Georgetown and Maryland is just as fruitful because of the wide range of media outlets that cover the games. For contests in the Tobacco Road rivalry, we have local newspapers and national Web sites. When Duke plays [...]

The Twittersphere has erupted with users in the last two weeks, but it truly exploded Wednesday night when Gerald Henderson decided he wanted to reprise his recurring role on SportsCenter’s top plays. Search “Henderson” on Twitter, and you’ll see at least two pages of lauding Tweets, with descriptions of the junior’s dunk ranging from “redonkulous” [...]
